Origin

The same question, twice

In 2022 Dina-Marie Stager was an office manager at a marketing firm, taking artificial intelligence classes at Houston Community College. Her teammates were a correctional officer and a fellow student.

They spent three months on a problem that sounds small until you try it: mapping the inside of an industrial building. GPS does not reach through steel and concrete. Without coordinates a drone cannot know where it is, and without knowing where it is, it cannot map anything.

They solved it with AI. The Indoor Industrial Safety Program pairs a high-performance drone with digital mapping to build a full three-dimensional replica of an enclosed facility in about thirty minutes, with no satellite signal at any point. Facility managers use the result to plan expansions and to find the blind spots where people get hurt.

Intel received more than a thousand entries from twenty-five nations that year. The Indoor Industrial Safety Program won the Global Award in the eighteen-and-over category — the first woman to take it, and the first woman from the United States. Two years later, Forbes ran the photograph of the three of them at the top of an article on AI education.

Then the question changed venue.

A soldier in a denied environment has the same problem as a drone inside a steel building. The infrastructure everyone assumes will be there — signal, power, the trained person — is not there. Only now the consequence is not a delayed retrofit.

GEGS™ is the second answer to the first question. Entirely offline, on the device, with no connectivity at any stage, built for whoever is present rather than the specialist who is not.

The discipline did not change. The stakes did.
